Včelí produkty jsou "vzácným" zbožím, které člověk využíval odedávna, nejdříve je získával od divoce žijícíh včelstev, později si včelstva přemístil blíže ke svému obydlí, člověk se začal učit včelařit. Proč? Právě kvůli včelím produktům! Hlavní význam včel je však jiný - opylovací činnost, využití si našly i produkty včel, které se používají v lidové medicíně, ale i jako výživové doplňky.
Co tedy od včel získáváme? Nejznámějším zástupcem je bezesporu med, jehož popularita jako sladidla i léčiva neustále roste, ovšem mezi včelí produkty nepatří pouze med, dalším široce rozšířeným, ale obecně už méně známým, je propolis, pryskyřičná látka s desinfekčími účinky. Další včelími výrobky jsou pyl, mateří kašička, vosk a včelí jed. Pravými produkty včel je pouze vosk a jed, ostatní látky sice získáváme od včel, nicméně jejich původ je v rostlinách.
V minulosti byly všechny včelí produkty široce využívány, s rozvojem moderní medicíny a syntetických léčiv se jaksi zapomnělo na staré a osvědčené potraviny či léčiva, které nám nabízí sama příroda...
